The food is always on point. They recently started the r&b brunch and the dj was live. Even when the dj is not present the music is good-- like our kin is running the play list. Keeps the vibes right. The service is always kind. Just need more people to get plates out. I'll wait tho... the food &vibes are just that good. IMO

In between my work trip, we savored a delightful southern breakfast at a quaint spot in Milwaukee. Intrigued by its name, reminiscent of a book I read in college, "Coffee Will Make You Black," we found ourselves in a former bank building transformed into a light-filled space adorned with African art and tributes to black culture. It was heartening to support an upbeat, black-owned business in a community facing economic challenges, a testament to resilience amid adversity. The atmosphere was refreshingly unpretentious. We settled into our seats with ease, greeted by the promise of attentive service. Sipping on a refreshing peach lemonade, accompanied by soulful tunes, we momentarily escaped to the ambiance of a grandmother's backyard porch. The most memorable moment came unexpectedly when an elderly host approached our table, engaging us in conversation. With a simple inquiry into our full names and a handshake, he proceeded to surprise both of us with insightful descriptions of our personalities, aspirations, and preferences, akin to deciphering astrological traits. While initially skeptical, his accurate portrayal of my own traits left me questioning whether he possessed clairvoyant abilities. Ultimately, whether fueled by intuition or practiced skill, the encounter provided a welcome respite, allowing us to immerse ourselves in a moment of positive connection and intrigue while enjoying home fries, scrambled eggs, pancakes, catfish and my fav, shrimp and grits.

Had a get together this afternoon at Coffee Makes You Back. It is at 2803 North Teutonia. About 80 to 100 members from assorted Lutheran Churches met for a story telling party. The restaurant served wonderful ground and brewed coffee. I am not a coffee drinker, but my wife, who is, thought it was great. Their menu for this event was mashed or fried potatoes, cole slaw and chicken wings. Normally, their menu would be more extensive, but this was done for the sale of simplicity for this meeting. The potatoes were tasty, all separate, not overdone and mushy. The cole slaw had a little zing to make it really good without being spicy. The chicken wings were fantastic. When cooking for a big crowd like this, it would be easy to go to extremes of just undercooked or burnt. These were done to perfection! They were crunchy, very juicy and extremely flavorful. You knew that the people in the kitchen had a game plan and followed it to the letter. I will be going back for more in the very near future. As I write, y taste buds are salivating. Servers were attentive and courteous without being in the way. The servers seemed happy to be there. It showed in everything they did. The building is not fancy. It used to be a bank. Everything was clean and neat. There were no last minute fixes that had to be done. All were prepared. Hours are limited, but those chicken wings will keep me coming back for more, very soon.

Loved stopping here on Friday morning. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. At the table we also got shrimp and grits and fried okra and fried green tomatoes, and they were delicious. Prices are fair and coffee was good. The staff are very passionate about their business and their history. Will definitely be back and recommend to my friends and family.
